Best Honey Harvest Yet!

Jul. 24, 2018

Hi all,

It's been a while since I've posted and I do apologize! It's been a very busy and somewhat successful few years since I began this little adventure in 2016. I've lost  a hive back in Feb 2018. I thought the hive was queenless because there were less bees and a friend tried to help out by giving me a queen cell on a frame. It didn't work but I learned so much. BTW, if you have a local beekeeping association, join it because the education and knowledge are priceless. I ended up ordering  whole new package of bees. In the meanwhile, I ended up splitting my first hive and it is doing very well. Probably won't get honey this year but took 30lbs from my original hive in June and will take more again in August. Also, I tried my hand at comb honey and it is delcious and very well sought after. Try it!

I will debut my new website in a few days but will go ahead and post the web address for you check out. It's BsBeesBuzzworthyHoney.net.

Thanks for stopping by....

Are my bees starving?

Aug. 6, 2016

Worried about my bees. Treated for ants by putting sugar syrup and boric acid in water bottles with a few drilled holes. Also, bees piling up on one side and a few dead ones at entrance. Hoping it's just the extreme heat and not robbing from other bees. I also put some Honey Bee Healthy in the hive because they may be starving. Foundation looks weird. Very dark with no brood. Very little brood and about 3-4 foundations are not even drawn out. On a positive note, I did find Queen Elizabeth! It's always a good day when they haven't swarmed!🐝

A lots been happeninh in the hive

Jul. 17, 2016

Wow! Its been a while since I've posted. I've been on 2 trips and when I returned, I expected to see al my frames drawn out but that didnt happen. Only about 5 were full of brood and I could see evidence that new bees have been born ( even though I have no idea what that looks like). I went to my local farmer's market yesterday and talked with a few beekeepers who suggested I move my empty frames around. so, today, i did just that! I wassurprised to actually witness one of my bees being born (too cool). Also, I found my queen and she was busy laying eggs. I was fortunate enoigh to get videos of each and will post to this page. I'm still disappointed that bees arent making more honey so I added sugar syrup today. We'll see. Until next time, beeks!

Williamsburg Bees

Jun. 29, 2016

Hi all,

This is my first post in a while because I've been in Williamsburg, VA for the past 7-10 days. So beautiful! There are so man bee influences and the peoplein Colonial Williamsburg pay much respect to our precious honey bee. I've included a ewe photos and a video in the photos and videos section of this website, so take a look!

I also want to introduce the new branding for my futue projects with hoey (hopefully). I commissioned an artistat sketchmob.com to create something specifially for me. I think it turned out great!

I visited a meadery in Williamsnburg called www.silverhandmeadery.com. We got to taste 6 dfferent kinds of hony and mead (basically wine made from honey, not grapes). So interesting and I brought some honey (mesquite and orange blossom) home with me. Those pics are also in the photos and videos section.

Aloso, my goal is to make comb honey, so I am always delighted when I find some in other place like Williamsburg. I bought a small box an dte some this morning. Nothing compares.

Needless to say, I was so anxious to check on my bees this morning. It's gettting more difficult to find Queen Elizabeth but I finally found her and she's still doing a great job. I added more sugar syrup and water and also refilled my hive beetle trap. I saw a few beetles but it looked as if the bees were chasing them out.

Take care and happy beeking!

Beetle Trap

Jun. 14, 2016

Yesterday, I inspected the hive and also added a smal hive beetle trap. It's a very inexpensive, reusable contraption that you only have to add vegetable oil and place between 2 frames.  Easy peasy. I made a video and it will be posted to my YouTube channel BsBeesinBama. About 4-5 frames ar full of capped brood, pollen and honey. I read that I can add my honey super when about 6-8 pf the deep frames are full. I was also able to locate the queen and all looked well. She seems to be doing a great job! I used a new bee suit that is much lighter and cooler. It's Tyvek and I ordered from Home Depot or Lowe's. It's disposable painter coveralls but will lst a while. I also used the hat and veil that came with my hive kit. Much cooler and more comfortable. There were a few ants but I sprkinkled some cinnamon o the edge of the hice and it seems to be working as of today. I plan to attend my first local beekeepers association meeeting on Thursday so I'll post about that experience, in the next few days Happy Beekeeping!
